DRAM and Flash Upgrades

Most routers require two different types of memory: DRAM and FLASH. The DRAMs primary function is to hold temporary instructions and data needed by the CPU. The CPU can access the information quickly, faster than information stored on hard drives or flash. Flash memory will store information after the electricity has been powered off. Due to this and the small form factor of Flash, the routers’ IOS is typically stored on Flash Memory.

Critical offers two product lines of DRAM and Flash designed to specifically meet the demands of our customers and their client's needs. We offer both and approved memory line (MEM3800-512D-CA), as well as a Critical branded third party option (MEM3800-512D-CR).

Approved Memory Line (-CA)

Critical has established relationships with the manufacturers that engineer, build and supply memory to many of the Networking OEM's (Including Cisco, Juniper, Brocade ...)

All networking OEMs use contract manufacturers to build their product. Critical purchases our approved products directly from these approved suppliers, guaranteeing our clients receive the exact same product that is specified by the OEM. By offering this product line Critical can supply this memory for a fraction of the cost, the only difference being the packaging. Critical Branded Memory Line (-CR)

Critical specializes in building compatible memory for Cisco and most other networking OEMs. These products are not "approved" due to the fact that the OEMs cannot guarantee the compatibility in their routers and networking hardware.
